My Christmas has always been a family celebration: we'd have dinner together and then go to Mass to see baby Jesus born at midnight precisely, when the veil covering the crib containing the precious wooden statue was pulled back and the bells of the Church of San Giovanni began to ring out.
Then we'd exchange greetings and return home, knowing that the next day we'd all be together again for Christmas lunch.
We children were delighted by the joyful atmosphere and the small nativity scene on the chest in the living room, filled with colored lights, with the papier-mâché mountains and the hut covered in moss from the garden.
