Under the clear light of the skylight in her house, my grandmother embroidered, with patience and precision, her precious lace, and I watched her, admiring, bring to life a delicate beauty of shapes and colors.
Embroidery, in Sicily and beyond, has been a hobby for women to cultivate but sometimes also a means to support the family income or to become financially independent.
The processing of lace chiaccherino is still very widespread throughout the island.
