In the foyer of my parents' house, there was a Sicilian Pupo, a puppet from the Teatro dei Pupi that they had purchased from a second-hand dealer in Palermo. With its gleaming armor, it welcomed me every time I returned home. It depicted Roland, and my father had told me about his exploits when I was a child, so the fascinating stories of the Paladins of France became part of my "fantasy world," and I later told them to my children.
